I often get asked how I can always come up with new labels and designers. For me it’s easy actually, because it’s my job to stay informed and to do my research. Besides checking Instagram and fashion magazines, here is what I do in order to find extravagant and extraordinary (avant-garde) fashion pieces.
Search Not Just A Label
The name says it all – here you can click through THE extraordinary. Discover experimental and edgy labels and designers and get in touch with them easily via the online platform.
Explore local stores
Take a stroll through the city’s most fashionable and arty hotspots. Young labels with a lower budget are often located in the side streets. Like for example in the LOCAL concept store – the name captures the spirit of the vision – you can shop current lines of local brands as well as international guest designers.
Visit Pop up stores and markets
At those hipsteresque street markets, you won’t only be able find crazy sounding vegan food and craft beer – there is always some kind of flea market or design market attached. Besides, there are many pop up stores – well – popping up every now and then featuring local labels and designers. Happens locally brings you the news about markets and pop up stores taking place in Vienna.
Get in touch with fashion schools
It’s always a good thing to get to know people before they get famous, so why not get in touch with designers-to-be? Fashion schools also have fashion shows and events (most likely for their newly graduates) and if you have any questions or special needs for your shootings, the students, teachers and professors are always willing to help.
Attend networking & press events
Nowadays, it’s just not working without networking (in Austrian dialect this pun is even funnier 😉 )! Subscribe to press letters and if you get invitations to events, accept them! I like to go to these events alone, so I HAVE to talk to strangers. It also helps sometimes if there is wine. And one thing’s for sure: at fashion events there WILL be wine.
Lately, I attended some events at the TAKE Festival for Indipendent Fashion and Art. I met so many great and inspiring people there, it was really a pleasure! There I also took the pictures for this article. Hope you like them!
